Maria G. Español Méndez, M.D., MHA, is a pediatric hematologist with expertise in sickle cell disease and other nonmalignant blood disorders.

She serves as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Tulane University School of Medicine and as medical director of the Tulane Sickle Cell Center of Southern Louisiana. She also cares for patients through pediatric hematology and oncology at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

Dr. Español Méndez’s clinical interests include pediatric sickle cell disease, bleeding and clotting disorders, and coordinated care for children with complex medical needs. Her experience helps bring both a pediatric and health-system perspective to the advisory committee.
