Dr. Nirmish Shah studies new treatments for sickle cell disease. He also researches how young patients can transition from pediatric to adult care. Dr. Shah has developed mobile apps that help support care for people with sickle cell disease, cancer, and bone marrow transplants. Because symptoms can be hard to describe and manual entries only offer occasional data, Dr. Shah’s team has added wearable devices that automatically collect objective data. Dr. Shah now works with several institutions to develop machine learning tools that can help predict pain in people with sickle cell disease.
